08.05.08 | NEW ALBUM "EN ESTE CAMINO" OUT NOW!
Pistolera's second full length album "En Este Camino" recorded in Brooklyn and produced by Grammy- Winner Charlie Dos Santos is out NOW! The album is already charting on college radio and received a great review from Billboard magazine.

"Pistolera frontwoman Sandra Velasquez has not given herself an easy assignment: write searching, often politically conscious lyrics in Spanish with traditional Latin music instrumentation (such as jarana, accordion and tuba) for a diverse audience...the results are often glorious and galvanizing ("Guerra," a translation of Bob Marley's "War," couldn't be more relevant). The musicianship is superb here, and it's a pleasure to listen to a whole museum of brass, bongos, congas, caxixi, maracas and pandereta incorporated beautifully into a sound that doesn't fit neatly into any genre."Billboard

07.02.08 | PISTOLERA ROCKS MONTREAL JAZZ FESTIVAL
We rocked the international music loving crowd at this year's Montreal Jazz Festival!
What an amazing festival it is!
Though it poured rain during our soundcheck and we were worried our show might be cancelled, the skies cleared just in time for our first show. The crowds gathered, sang along, and danced with their fists in the air. Just like we like it. They did a great job of singing along to "Me Gusta Tomar" too.
We played an 8pm and 10pm show which were both extremely awesome. Check YouTube for some footage.

05.18.08 | Pistolera to tour Texas in May
After two consecutive years of showcasing at the SXSW music conference in Austin, the buzz about Pistolera has spread throughout Texas and the band has been invited to perform in new cities such San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston. Pistolera is looking forward to sharing the stage with some of Texas' best musical acts such as Grupo Fantasma, Maneja Beto, and Charanga Cakewalk. Pistolera will be performing songs from their upcoming album "En Este Camino", which will be released this summer.

04.21.08 | PISTOLERA TO PERFORM FOR MAY 1st RALLY AT UNION SQUARE IN NYC FOR IMMIGRANTS RIGHTS
Pistolera has always been very vocal about our support of immigrants, their rights, and their contributions to this country.

So it is with great pride that Pistolera will be performing at the annual May 1 st Rally at Union Square in New York City to support immigrants rights and justice for all human beings.

The rally is from 12-4 in Union Square and Pistolera will be performing at 3pm.

02.28.08 | TOUR FROM SAN FRANCISCO TO SXSW IN AUSTIN
Pistolera has been invited again to the SXSW Music Conference in Austin, TX.
We will be starting our tour in one of our favorite cities, San Francisco, and working our way down and across to Austin. We will be playing new material from our second album "En Este Camino", which is not released yet.

11.11.07 | PISTOLERA RECORDING SECOND ALBUM!
Pistolera is currently working on its sophomore album. The band started tracking during the summertime while lead singer Sandra Velasquez was 7months pregnant! The band then took a break to go on their last tour for their debut album "Siempre Hay Salida", Sandra had the baby, and now they're back in the studio doing overdubs! Never a dull moment in the life of a Pistolera. The album will be released in the spring of 2008 when the band will begin a series of national and international tours.

06.15.07 | Pistolera West Coast Tour July 7-15
Pistolera is ready to rock the west coast one last time this year. We probably won't be back out west until 2008. So don't miss out! Why you ask...well a couple reasons, mainly because lead singer/guitarist Sandra Velasquez is 6 months pregnant and the baby is due this fall. It's a girl! Another Pistolera!

05.22.07 | Pistolera tours Mexico - plays for thousands!
Pistolera was invited to the Ollin Kan World Music Festival in Mexico. Over 100 artists from over 40 countries worldwide. Pistolera was one of only two bands from the United States. While in Mexico, Pistolera played on Mexico's coolest radio station, Radio Ibero, and was written up twice in Mexico's coolest newspaper, La Jornada.

Pistolera performed in the Parque Ecologico with Boom Pan from Israel, in Cuernavaca, and in the Bosque de Tlalpan to over 3,000 people. The final show of the week was in the Zocalo of Mexico City where several of the festival bands (including Pistolera) joined Mexico's own El Gran Silencio on stage. There were over 70,000 people in the audience! Check the photos page for some pics from the tour.

04.28.07 | Pistolera tours Belgium and Holland!
We are on tour in Belgium at the moment and it is nothing short of amazing. For starters, it is simply beautiful here! We are staying in the small town of Lichtaart which is something resembling the town from the Wallace and Gromit movie. The owner of the house we are staying in grew the biggest pumpkin in Belgium 3 years ago. It is clean, peaceful, everyone is on a bicycle (noone has a lock), and the weather just happens to be absolutely perfect right now. Touring in Belgium is like a dream compared to touring the states. The entire country is the size of the state of Maryland. So every show is no more than an hourr away. No 12 hour drives! We are being treated like queens here! Every club feeds you a gourmet meal after soundcheck, the club helps you load gear, and the audience is really there to listen! We got scolded at the bar last night for talking during the headlining bands set. Maria Elena is learning key phrases in dutch so that we can have some stage banter. We love it here!

¡Gigante: Despierta! is a DVD compilation of compelling short films from all around the country, due to hit the streets in the weeks before Mayday 2007. Shot, edited, and brought together by a network of independent video activists, graphic designers, community organizers, musicians, and immigrant rights activists, it is a collective memory and a tool to inspire action this MayDay 2007, when the Giant will raise its voice again to say: we are one people, without borders. We are here, and we are here to stay!

American Latino TV will be having their first annual awards show this year and Pistolera has been nominated for Favorite American Latino Indie Musical Artist(s) in the very first Annual American Latino Awards set to air in over 70 cities beginning July 16th, 2007! The first and only U.S. based Latino award show that is viewer voted.

We are on tour in the southwest right now and are having a great time! Highlights include getting arrested at the airport for my guitar strap that had bullet casings on it, a standing ovation of hundreds of people in San Diego, opening for Ozomatli in Santa Fe, and the tour ain't over yet!

You can now watch Pistolera's debut video for the anti-minuteman song "Cazador" on the video page of this website, as well as on our myspace page. The video was shot in Brooklyn at the club Barbes and was directed by Daniela Capistrano.

02.18.07 | Pistolera invited to SXSW - Southwest tour dates announced!
Pistolera has been receiving some great radio play in the southwest so we figured it was time to show up in person! Pistolera will be touring its way from Los Angeles to Austin, TX where they have been invited to showcase at this years SXSW. It's going to be a fun tour that will include radio appearances on KPBS in San Diego, KUNM in Albuquerque, and show with Ozomatli in Santa Fe, NM and a showcase at SXSW.
